the facility

The 2000 sq ft facility has been designed using top quality materials and methods for comfort, aesthetic style and acoustic perfection. The rooms are separated by 24in thick walls that contain double-layered, glazed doors and windows designed and supplied by NoiseStop Systems.

The overall effect is an open, light and pleasant environment conducive to creativity and high-quality output with fantastic audio separation that allows direct line of sight between recording rooms, vocal booths and control room.

Our main 1000 sq ft studio is suitable for all types of projects ranging from film, TV features, documentary, animation and music recording in stereo or 5.1 surround.  The equipment includes:

our people

Niall Mathewson
Niall has been performing and writing music since 1975.  In 1977 he joined the progressive rock band Pallas with which he went on to record and release several major albums, initially on the EMI Harvest label and latterly with the German Progressive Rock label InsideOut records.  He played a prominent part in the composition, production and engineering of the band’s earlier recordings, working closely with producers like Eddie Offord (ELP, Yes) and Mick Glossop (Frank Zappa, Waterboys).  He is currently sole producer/engineer for the band and has produced the last three albums, including the award-winning ‘Cross and the Crucible’.

In 1990 Niall launched his own studio – The Mill, near Aberdeen.  The studio continues to be recognised as one of the most successful and long-running facilities in the area, largely due to Niall’s local reputation and years of experience in recording techniques.

He was approached by Aberdeen Technical College in 2002 to assist with the design and construction of a non-commercial recording studio for educational purposes.  Following completion of the studio, he remained with the college and went on to teach sound recording courses, using Digidesign/Pro Tools technology.

Over the years, Niall has written and produced numerous musical compositions for a variety of television and media companies.  He maintains that visual images provide one of the best forms of inspiration for the creation of music and sound.

Since joining the team in 2006, Niall has brought a unique set of skills on board based on his years of experience.
